God’s community at St. Timothy’s is richly blessed with wonderful people of different ages, interests, and talents. We invite you to join in and share in the ministries and activities of this vibrant, growing and caring place. At St. Timothy’s, we seek to draw closer to one another and to Christ as we worship, praise, sing, laugh, cry, serve, learn and play together. The following overview of our ministries and activities will give you an idea of the many opportunities available to and for you in this community of faith. Care & Support

Accessibility Ministry
Provides rides and insures access to worship and other church functions to those with special needs.

Columbarium Ministry
Provides information about obtaining inurnment niche in the St. Timothy’s Columbarium.

Home Communion Ministers (Worship Ministry)
Administer Holy Communion to congregants who have need of home visitation.

HOPE Group at Sunrise
Provides support and encouragement through hour-long social visits with residents at Sunrise Assisted Living in Reston on Sunday afternoons.

Helping Hands (Pastoral Care Ministry)
Offers support in the form of meals, transportation to medical appointments, cards, etc. to parishioners who need such help.

Prayer Ministry (Pastoral Care Ministry)
Offers intercessory prayers and thanksgivings for parishioners, family, friends and others in need of prayers.

Shawl Ministry (Pastoral Care Ministry)
Knits or crochets shawls for those in need of comfort. No experience needed—we’ll teach and help you!

Stephen Ministry
One-to-one caregiving to those going through a life challenge.

White Rose Ministry
Provides a meal to parish families with a new baby and places a white rose on the altar at a Sunday service to signify a new member of the St. Tim’s family.

Christian Education and Faith Formation

Education and Spiritual Growth for Children

Godly Play
Teaches K – 2nd graders the art of using religious language through parable, sacred story, silence and liturgical action.

Sunday School
St. Timothy's offers Sunday School classes from second grade through Senior High, September through June.

Vacation Bible School
One week (half-day) fun and educational Bible-themed event held during July at St. Timothy’s.

Education and Spiritual Growth for Youth

Journey to Adulthood Program
Youth ministry program of spiritual formation for grades 6 – 12, embracing Bible study, prayer, rites of passage, outreach ministries and both serious and playful activities.

J2A with youth confirmation and pilgrimage
Faith formation program for 9 – 12th graders engaging skills and critical thinking while planning/embarking on a pilgrimage.

Rite-13
Christian formation for grades 6 – 8 that focuses on celebrating the individuality of each young person and their creative potential.

Youth Group
Provides service, spiritual and fellowship opportunities for the youth in our congregation. Undertakes yearly service mission trip to Dungannon, VA to provide physical labor, fellowship and foster spiritual relationships.

Education and Spiritual Growth for Adults

Adult Faith Formation Programs
Plans/coordinates yearly offerings of adult CE program offerings, including presentations, one-time and ongoing small group discussions, Advent and Lenten series events, etc.

Bible Study on Wednesday mornings
Yearly program of interesting and lively discussion of different Biblical study themes.

Education for Ministry (EfM)
Four year seminary-level theological education program to deepen adult spirituality and discern lay ministry.

Fellowship and Parish Life

Boy Scout Troop 159
Sponsored by (and meeting at) St. Tim’s, the troop seeks to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.  This includes service both to the Church and the surrounding community. www.troop159.com

Breakfast Groups, Men’s and Women’s
Facilitates monthly informal breakfast gatherings at a local restaurant.

Episcopal Church Women (ECW)
Provides fellowship and service projects for all women of St. Timothy’s.

Historian
Maintains the historical records of St. Timothy’s.

Men of St. Timothy’s (MOST)
Encourages  fellowship and occasional service projects for all men of St. Timothy’s.

Photography Ministry
Volunteers take photos of various events at St. Timothy’s.

Shrine Mont Parish Weekend Retreat
Coordinates activities for the fun and relaxing annual parish weekend retreat at Shrine Mont in Orkney Springs, VA.

Hospitality and Welcome

Bread Delivery to Newcomers (Open Arms Ministry)
Arranges delivery of loaf of bread to welcome newcomers.

Coffee Hour (Hospitality Ministry)
Provides refreshments following each Sunday service. Help serve our community by making coffee, providing food, or cleaning up!

Greeters (Open Arms Ministry)
Provides a welcoming face at the door each Sunday to greet people and answer questions.

Hospitality Ministry
Brings the congregation together for fellowship during Sunday coffee hours and at other special events.

Open Arms Ministry
Provides leadership in making all people at St. Timothy’s feel welcome.

Outreach and Service

The Closet (Service Ministry)
Twice monthly, volunteers from St. Tim’s help staff this charitable Herndon thrift store that returns funding and services to local residents in need.

Dungannon Mission (Youth Group)
Teens and adult chaperones undertake a  yearly service mission trip to Dungannon, VA to provide physical labor, fellowship and foster spiritual relationships.

Food Table Ministry
Volunteers help distribute food from our kitchen pantry to our guests with these needs, as well as occasionally diapers and toiletries.

Haiti outreach, St. Mathieu’s School, Chapoteau (Service Ministry)
St. Timothy’s assists with expenses for uniforms, textbooks, and supplies for the students of St. Mathieu's.

Jeanie Schmidt Free Clinic (Service Ministry)
St. Tim’s provides volunteers and other assistance to the JSFC, a provider of  free health services to local patients with no insurance and a household income of 200% or less of federal poverty level.

Lakota Mission
Participants travel  yearly to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, SD to provide physical labor/foster spiritual relationships with the Lakota people.

LINK (Service Ministry)
Volunteers donate and deliver groceries for the local LINK food bank throughout the year and at Christmas and Thanksgiving.

Loudoun Abused Women’s Shelter (LAWS) (Service Ministry)
St. Tim’s provides volunteers and other assistance to LAWS, which gives  temporary emergency shelter, food and other support to women and their children escaping domestic violence/ abuse.

Reston Interfaith (Service Ministry)
St. Tim’s provides volunteers and other support to this non-profit organization serving northwestern Fairfax County, providing support and advocacy for those in need of food, shelter, quality childcare and other services.

St. Timothy’s Cards for a Cause (formerly Scrip Ministry)
Do you shop at Giant? Purchase gift cards at St. Tim's for face value to use at any Giant. For every dollar spent, St. Tim's will receive a 5% cash rebate to use towards our ministries/misions.

St. Timothy’s Preschool
A non-profit social outreach program of St. Timothy’s, providing a loving and nurturing human environment for children ages three – five.  The award-winning St. Timothy’s Preschool has been a presence in the community since 1975.

Service Ministry
Engages the congregation in living their faith by serving others through local and global outreach.

Sustaining Our Church

Building and Grounds Ministry
Maintains the building and grounds in good repair and appearance.

Communications Ministry
Collects, creates and disseminates information about St. Timothy’s both within and outside the church.

Endowment Fund
Oversees the current Endowment Fund of St. Timothy’s.

Environmental Stewardship: Stewardship of Creation
Educates the parish on environmental issues and environmentally sound practices that honor our charge to care for God’s creation.

Finance Ministry
Responsible, at the direction of the Vestry, for creating and maintaining the church budget.

Memorials Ministry
Maintains a list of approved items for which memorial funds may be accepted, and ensures that all memorial gifts are recorded.

Office Volunteers
Office volunteers give time and talent to assist the Parish Administrator with a variety of tasks.

Personnel Ministry
Ministry volunteers  review staff contracts on a yearly basis.

Stewardship Ministry
Encourages parishioners to support St. Timothy’s mission and ministry through generous giving of time, talent, wisdom and wealth.

Technology Advisory Board (Communications Ministry)
Conducts research and makes recommendations to ensure the integrity, compatibility, and integrated functioning of hardware, software, and web/online services.

Volunteer Coordination & Support Ministry (VoCoSuM)
VoCoSuM assists parishioners with connecting to meaningful ministry, and supports ministries in obtaining assistance (one-time and recurring volunteer tasks).

Vestry and Regional/Diocesan representation

Diocesan Delegates and Alternates
Represent St. Timothy’s at Diocesan & Region 5 meetings.

Vestry
Elected members of the congregation responsible for oversight of financial and temporal issues of the parish community.

Worship & Music

Music and Choirs

Handbell Choir
Plays for service preludes (about once monthly at the 9:30 and 11 am services) and other events throughout the year.

Jubilate Choir
Young people 8+ learn the basics of music reading and singing correctly. Sings about once monthly at the 9:30 or 11 am service.

St. Cecilia Choir
Provides choral support in the form of hymns and anthems at the 9:30 am service each Sunday and at special services. Ages 8+

St. Ambrose Choir
Provides choral support in the form of hymns and anthems at the 11:00 am service each Sunday and at special services. Ages 14+ welcome!

Worship and Liturgy

Acolyte Guild
Provides training/support for young people serving as acolytes/crucifers/torch bearers.

Altar Guild
Ensures that God’s house is in order, beautiful, clean and prepared for worship.

Flower Ministry (Altar Guild)
Volunteers support an Altar Guild Team on a regular or on-call basis to arrange the flowers for the Altar and/or to help with the arrangements for Christmas and Easter services.

Linen Ministry (Altar Guild)
Volunteers support an Altar Guild Team on a regular or on-call basis to wash and iron the linens that are used in our worship.

Wedding Coordination Ministry (Altar Guild)
Provides as needed on-site assistance and coordination for rehearsals and wedding services held at St. Timothy’s.

Lay Eucharistic Ministers
Assist with reading lessons, leading prayers, and serving Holy Communion at Sunday and special services.

Lectors
Assist with reading lessons at Sunday and special services.

Robes Ministry
Ensures that acolyte and Lay Eucharistic Minister robes are kept laundered and serviceable for all worship services.

Usher Ministry
Ushers assist the congregation at all worship services.
